Host of the Territorial Rodeo Update; Monte James, is a lifelong fan and participant in the great American sport of rodeo. Monte's rodeo career started at the age of 5 riding calves and steers then on to bulls and barebacks in the National High School Rodeo Association and on to the Mid States Rodeo Circuit.

After a serious rodeo injury at Vermillion South Dakota in 1999, Monte packed up his spurs and picked up a microphone and turned his focus to another lifelong love -radio. His groundbreaking show the "Sioux Steel Rodeo Report" was broadcast to rural communities across 5-states on legendary WNAX-Yankton.

This prototype evolved into the Weekly Territorial Rodeo Update now heard on over 50 stations across the Midwest and growing daily. This unique show follows Heartland P.R.C.A. Rodeo athletes as they progress in the standings throughout the year all the way to the National Finals Rodeo. TRU is fun, fast paced, well produced and very popular with advertisers and listeners alike! Monte also performs the announcing duties at rodeos and bullridings across the Territorial coverage area including the prestigious Northern Bull Riding Tour Finals held each October.

For more information on announcing rates or how your business or station can benefit from the Territorial Rodeo Update please contact Monte at 605-661-3939 or mjames@siouxsteel.com.

I grew up in the country but never was much of a cowboy.  I hayed for various ranchers and worked on a couple of ranches around the Gordon, NE area.

To tell ya the truth, though, I got tired of "workin for a livin";.  So, I found a way to make a living "without really workin".  I went to work for radio station KSDZ in the fall of 1990 on a part time basis.  Over the years I've worked at other stations, such as KKLS/KKMK in Rapid City, SD and KOKZ in Waterloo, IA.  I even drove truck for CRST in Cedar Rapids, IA and hauled blocks and mud for West River Masonry outta Rapid City.  But, that was too much like work!  So, I came back to Gordon - back to KSDZ, "The Twister."

I found me a good woman, one who's "willin" to put up with me.  So, Rebecca and I got hitched and rounded out our little tribe with 2 sons, Justice and Noah.

Now I knock the dust offa Monte and help him put together the Territorial Rodeo Update to keep you fans informed about the accomplishments of the atheletes in AMERICA's sport, rodeo.  Glad to have you along; hope ya can ride along with us awhile.

I grew up on a ranch in the Sand hills of Nebraska. As a youngster I spent a lot of time riding horses and working with my family on the ranch. In later years, I attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney where I received a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations with a double minor in Marketing and Sales.

After college, I headed for the East Coast. My first job was working for a newspaper in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I eventually became homesick and moved back to the Midwest. Since then I have worked in marketing and management for various companies, chambers of commerce, and non-profit organizations.

In December of 2004, my husband Nick and I were blessed with the most wonderful addition to our family. Our son, Shaylor Hugh Platt was born. We decided that I would discontinue my career and stay home with the our son. I now work part time, at home, with my husband doing bookwork for his construction company. In our spare time, we buy, renovate and and resell older homes.

When the position of Public Relations Director of the Territorial Rodeo Update came about, I knew it would be the perfect fit. I am able to work from my home and put my PR degree to use. I'm an avid rodeo fan, so, I am thoroughly enjoying working with the Territorial Rodeo Update.
